Every Second Sunday |
Every second Sunday of the month at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, at the ending portion of our morning worship experience, we observe in a most sincere and blessed way with much reverence, the meal of Holy Communion. Below are FAQ’s as it relates to communion. Please take time and read them to become familiar with the importance and sublimity of the communion meal and service. QUESTION: How many times should I take Holy Communion? Answer: In accordance to 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 it declares in v. 26 that "as often" as you eat of the bread and drink of this cup, you proclaim the Lords death till he come. At New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Communion is observed every second Sunday, on Resurrection Sunday, at special services such as weddings, consecrations, and or elevation services. Some organizations or denominations observe it every Sunday where others only do so once a year or on other special holy days of the liturgical year. No matter if it is once a month, once a year, or every Sunday as long as it is observed then we are keeping the commandment of our Lord to do it until He comes again. QUESTION: Who can partake in Holy Communion? Answer: Only person that have been baptized should partake in Holy Communion. QUESTION: Can I take Holy Communion if I am not Baptist? Answer: Yes, all baptized persons from any Christian denomination are welcome to come to the Lords Table. QUESTION: What elements are used for the Holy Communion? Answer: Unleavened bread and grape juice are used to represent the body and blood of Jesus Christ in accordance with the scriptures. QUESTION: How should I approach the Communion service? Answer: Each believer should approach the communion service and meal with humility, joy, reverence, and a heart of repentance. This is because we are commemorating the ultimate sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross therefore we should be humble and joyous that because of Calvary our sins have been washed away by the shedding of His blood. Repentance is our position inwardly because when we are aware that Jesus lives in us, we also pause to think what kind of home we are giving Him. We allow Him to change our lives so that we live the way He wants us to. Paul wrote, "A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup" (1 Cor. 11:28). The Lord's Supper helps us look inward, to examine ourselves because of the great meaning in this ceremony. QUESTION: Why do I see the Senior Pastor, Ministers, Deacons, Mothers, Adjutants, and/or other church leaders in uniform on Communion Sundays? Answer: Second Sundays at New Prospect are considered as an Official Sunday and in the event that Communion is served that is considered a High Service therefore uniformity and protocol are strictly adhered to and orchestrated. We invite you to join us for Holy Communion every Second Sunday at our 10:45AM worship service. |
